Skanska is an active participant in a number of international Sustainability initiatives. Amongst the most significant are the following:
World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD)
Skanska AB has been a member since the formation of WBCSD in 1995. Over the years it has participated in a wide range of WBCSD activities of which the "Energy & Climate" programme and "Energy Efficiency in Buildings" (EEB) initiative are the most important. At a national level, the Skanska Latin America business in Argentina is a member of the local branch of WBCSD, Consejo Empresario Argentino para el Desarrollo Sostenible (CEADS).
United Nations Global Compact (UNGC)
Skanska AB has been a participant since the UNGC was established in 2000. In addition, Skanska is active in the UNGC Nordic Network, a network of approximately 133 companies based in the Nordic region. United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)
Since established in 2006, Skanska AB has been a sponsor of the UNEP "Sustainable Buildings and Climate Initative".
EU Corporate Leaders Group on Climate Change (EU CLG)
Skanska AB is the only construction company and only Nordic company active in this high level initiative to work with and support EU policy makers in the field of Climate Change.
As part of our commitment to a more sustainable world, Skanska co-sponsored the annual Prince of Wales Lecture for 2010. The speaker was the President of GE Corporation, Mr Jeff Immelt. Many of the points and challenges raised by Mr Immelt for the future of the built environment form part of Skanska's 2015 ambition to be the leading Green contractor and developer. World Economic Forum (WEF)
As an active partner of the WEF, Skanska AB supports several of the Forum's sustainability initiatives. Skanska has played a significant role in the establishment of the Forum's Partnering Against Corruption Initiative and Skanska is a supporter of the Forum's Disaster Resource Network.
Skanska acts as an advisor to Stakeholder Forum, which is an international UN related organisation working to advance sustainable development and create democracy at a global level.
European Network of Construction Companies for Research and Development (ENCORD)
Skanska is a member of ENCORD where it is active on best practice development and promotion for Building Information Modelling, Health & Safety and Climate Change challenges in the Built Environment. Read more about the the Construction Sustainability Charter>> signed by Skanska.
The World Green Building Council
The World Green Building Council is a global not-for-profit organization working to transform the property industry towards sustainability through its members - national Green Building Councils (GBCs). Skanska is a Partner of the European Network of GBCs. We are active in ten national GBCs, with Skanska senior executives currently on the board of eight of those GBCs.
Construction Sector Transparency Initiative (CoST)
Skanska has in 2011 endorsed the Construction Sector Transparency Initiative (CoST) which is an international multi-stakeholder pilot project in eight countries started in 2008. CoST seeks to achieve transparency through the public disclosure of information at various stages of the construction project cycle in a way that helps stakeholders to hold the project agency accountable for value and quality. CoST is currently being scaled up to become a global initiative. The pilot project was funded by the UK Government's overseas development agency (DFID) with support from the World Bank.
