Research and Innovation
For more than 130 years, research and innovation have been the foundation of our business. This is how we support the current and future needs of our company and customers.
The corporate Research and Innovation function is the hub for innovations, technical expertise and technical knowledge transfer between Skanska's business units. The Group function is complemented by similar functions in each of the business units, ensuring innovation activities are business related and close to our projects.
The purpose of the Research and Innovation function is to connect Skanska's resources to identify, develop and share technical knowledge and innovations in support of the current and future needs of Skanska and its customers.
What we do
The function leads the research and innovation activities in Skanska, identifying new technical solutions in the delivery of projects and making sure that Skanska remains competitive. Through innovation we identify and develop new technical products, services and processes, creating increased value for Skanska and our clients.
It provides technical input to Skanska's risk management process to reduce risk in relation to complex large-span structures, potential systemic faults and the use of new unproven materials. It also provides technical support for problem solving, and claims resolution, working through a coordinated internal and external network of experts.
Collaboration with academia
In order to gain access to the latest technology and insights, Skanska actively collaborates with some 25 universities in our home markets, for instance Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden and Stanford University in the U.S. Five adjunct professors work in academia on automation, energy, concrete, tunneling and bridges.
