Meet Gisela Nylund
Gisela Nylund works as a Customer Coordinator on a construction project in Stockholm and loves to be involved in creating buildings that will remain for many generations.
What do you do?
I work as a Customer Coordinator on a construction project in central Stockholm. We are building more than 450 apartments here and my job is to help those who have bought a home here with their choice of fixtures and fittings. That includes everything from bathroom tiles to wallpaper and the choice of handles in the kitchen – all aimed at ensuring they will be happy with their choices.
It is then my responsibility to make sure that what they have ordered ends up in their new home. I am in close contact with the blue collar workers at the site – you could say I’m the link between them and the end customer. I accompany the customer on their journey from signing the contract until their home is ready for them to move into.
To keep our homebuyers informed of what is happening on site we use Twitter as well as a regular blog, both of which are regularly updated with news and pictures. People appreciate it a lot.
Although my work also includes a whole load of other tasks, it is mainly about looking after the homebuyers.
What keeps you motivated?
It’s fantastic to be involved in creating something. What we build will remain for many generations and I love it when I drive past a building and can point at it and say “I helped to build that”!
Helping people achieve their dream home is also a motivation – seeing how their faces light up the first time they cross the threshold.
I’m constantly learning new things. No two days are the same.
What are your main challenges?
My greatest challenge is – obviously – living up to our customers’ high expectations, or to put it more accurately, making sure that our product does so. Skanska is a well-known company that many people have heard of, and we need to look after our brand as well as we can. Ideally we should even be a little bit better than they expect!
I joined Skanska five years ago after having spent five years with another construction company. The reason I came here was that I wanted to work for a large, stable, well-known company where I could develop professionally and personally. There has always been opportunity for me to do so because of the variety of jobs involved and because various kinds of training are offered. I changed job a year ago but I stayed within the Group – which goes to show how you can grow with Skanska.
