We are Skanska Commercial Development

Around 90% of our lives are spent indoors…

… So it’s no surprise the places we work, live and play in have a profound impact on our overall mood, health and, ultimately, our productivity.

We at Skanska Commercial Development are not only shaping how people work and live, we create places that will last beyond our lifetime. Places that are both sustainable and contribute to the health, well-being and creativity of those living and working within them. To us, our buildings are a long-term commitment towards building a better society. To our tenants and customers, they are an investment in quality of life.

So, what do we do? We plan, build, lease and sell high-quality workplaces, headquarters, retail centers and logistics facilities for enterprises in parts of Europe and the USA. We also help construct multi-family apartment buildings in some markets. Together with the Skanska Construction business, we’ve developed over 4 million square meters of space– using our knowledge to deliver sustainable design solutions we can be proud of.

To us, sustainability means more than just our actions towards net-zero carbon emissions. It’s about the long-term perspective of where we can make the most significant contributions to society overall. From how people feel and the way they interact with others, to how they’re impacted by their surrounding environment, now and in the future. This is something that we consider in all of our projects.

Local development experts

Our ongoing commitment to creating sustainable solutions means our local development teams are on the ground. In essence, we are building as much for ourselves as we are part of and live in the communities and cities that we build for. That’s why we are also constantly working with local communities to together shape the places for those not just occupying the buildings, but also the people who live around them.

Shared responsibility

To fulfill our ultimate goal of building for a better society with a broader perspective of what’s truly sustainable, we need to continue building to the highest possible standards. These are measured not only in quality, but also in health, environmental impact and energy efficiency. We work closely with internationally recognized certifications like the WELL, LEED, BREEAM and Fitwell standards to make sure the spaces we shape are sustainable both for people and the planet.

Recognizing our responsibility is only the beginning

In 2020, Fortune magazine, ranked Skanska #17 on their global “Change the World” list of 52 companies based on four factors:

- Measurable social impact—the impact a company has on specific societal problems

- Business results—how the impactful work contributes to shareholder value

- Degree of innovation—how innovative the company’s effort is compared to competitors

- Corporate integration—how integral the work is to the company’s overall strategy

We’ve set a Skanska Group target of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2045 – within the whole value chain. This includes suppliers, subcontractors and those who use the buildings and infrastructure we create.

The target guides our work on reducing the climate impact from our business. We will continue to cooperate closely with our suppliers and customers, so that together we can make this goal a reality.
