Skanska's redevelopment project Bentley Works, in Doncaster UK, is the winner of this year's Energy Awards - Energy Efficient Building Project of the Year.

Innovative application of renewable technologies

The judges were impressed by the innovative, practical and consistent application of renewable and construction technologies to achieve the Skanska Deep Green Criteria, Zero Carbon and BREEAM Outstanding.

Focus on delivering safe working environment with long term value

In addition to minimizing energy and water usage the redevelopment also focused on delivering end user value, that is a safe and good working environment, as well as giving best value in the long term.

Low energy operation was the basis of the design. An energy efficient building envelope and the boiler fuelled by waste oil and evaporative cooling system were among the sustainable solutions. These work in addition to more conventional technologies such as low energy LED Lighting, rainwater harvesting and Photovoltaic Solar panels, which generate electricity from the sunlight.

Several Skanska UK units involved

The award gives recognition to the 'One Skanska' approach involving several Skanska UK units, such as Cementation Skanska, Project Development, Building – Central and Regions, SRW and Technical Services, to deliver a future proofed Deep Green project.
