Skanska has signed a contract with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) Metro-North Railroad to complete the final phase of the Croton-Harmon Shops and Yard complex project. The contract is worth USD 365 M, about SEK 3.3 billion, which will be included in the US order bookings for the fourth quarter of 2018.

The 40-hectare (100-acre) complex was built in the early 1900s, and currently serves as Metro-North’s primary service, repair, and maintenance facility. Under the design-build contract, Skanska will demolish two obsolete structures currently used for train maintenance and replace them with a new 22,300-square-meter (240,000-square-foot) facility that will service Metro North’s electric fleet.

Construction is set to begin in the first quarter of 2019 and will continue through 2022.

Skanska is one of the leading construction and development companies in the USA, specializing in building construction, civil infrastructure, public-private partnerships and commercial property developments in select US markets. Skanska USA had sales of SEK 59 billion in 2017 and has approximately 9,500 employees.
