Cementation Skanska will create one of the largest current open-cut retaining boxes in Europe – equivalent in size to four football pitches. The near 1-kilometer long site will house the lines coming into Euston station for the new HS2 railway. In total, around 2,000 piles will be installed.

Skanska, as part of the Skanska Costain STRABAG joint venture, is delivering full detailed design and construction of Phase One of the UK’s new high-speed railway in the southern section of the overall High Speed Two (HS2) project. The contract for the HS2 Main Works package was announced 15 April 2020 and involves the construction of major tunnels in the approach to the London terminus at Euston station.

HS2 will provide about 555 kilometers of new, high-speed track and is expected to carry more than 300,000 passengers a day when fully operational. It will improve connectivity across the country, helping the UK reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
