Skanska lands new multi-million contract in U.S. for Lucent Technologies Microelectronics Center
Skanska has been awarded the contract to construct the new Microelectronics Corporate Center for the American telecom company Lucent Technologies in Hanover Township, Pennsylvania. The order is valued at USD 120 million, approximately SEK 960 million.
PRESS RELEASE, JANUARY 15, 1999 06/99 Skanska lands new multi-million contract in U.S. for Lucent Technologies Microelectronics Center Skanska has been awarded the contract to construct the new Microelectronics Corporate Center for the American telecom company Lucent Technologies in Hanover Township, Pennsylvania. The order is valued at USD 120 million, approximately SEK 960 million. Sordoni Skanska will be responsible for the construction of the project, from initial studies through to occupancy by the customer. The Lucent Technologies Microelectronics Corporate Center will house the corporate offices, data center, microelectronics computer laboratories, conference and training center as well as a cafeteria, medical and fitness facilities. The Center will feature a significantly aesthetic design by the architect Kevin Roche, John Dinkeloo & Associates. The 50,000 square meter (560,000 sq. ft) building will have two wings connected by a glass atrium. The facade will be constructed in steel and glass. The Center will have two parking garages totaling 64,000 square meters (711,000 sq. ft.) with space for nearly 2,000 cars. Sordoni Skanska will also be responsible for the roads into the new building site. Some 2,700 Lucent employees will work in the Center which is scheduled for completion in October 2001. Planning and pre-construction work has started and construction will commence in October 1999. Sordoni Skanska and Lucent Technologies have cooperated for many years, beginning when Lucent was still part of the American telecom company AT&T. Sordoni Skanska recently completed a new large R&D center for the latter company in Middletown, New Jersey, with a total project cost of about SEK 2.4 billion.
