Skanska to construct research laboratory in Solna, Sweden, for SEK 1.2 billion
The new laboratory, with the working title Biomedicum, will be constructed in the eastern part of the Karolinska Institutet area, in connection with the new University Hospital. On a total area of 63,000 square meters experimental research from several scientific disciplines will be gathered.
Skanska’s assignment also includes preparatory ground works, which has already started. When the research laboratory is completed in 2018 it will be one of the largest in Europe, with room for 1,700 scientists and other personnel.
Sustainability is in focus in the construction, in choice of materials as well as in technical solutions. The intention is that Biomedicum will be certified according to Miljöbyggnad.
Skanska Sweden is one of Sweden’s largest construction companies, with operations in building and civil-engineering construction. The business unit has approximately 11,000 employees and revenue in 2012 amounted to approximately SEK 30 billion. In Sweden, Skanska is also active in the development of residential construction and commercial premises.
