Skanska to build airport terminal in Boston for USD 386 M, nearly SEK 4 billion

Skanska’s US subsidiaries Beacon Skanska and Beers Skanska have been awarded a contract to construct the new Terminal A at the Boston Logan International Airport, in East Boston, Massachusetts. The customer is Delta Airlines, headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia.
The order is valued at USD 386 million, about SEK 3.9 billion. Design plans and pre-construction are under way. The new facility is scheduled for completion in autumn 2004. Full traffic and passenger service levels will be maintained during the entire construction period.

Skanska’s US subsidiaries Beacon Skanska and Beers Skanska have been awarded a contract to construct the new Terminal A at the Boston Logan International Airport, in East Boston, Massachusetts. The customer is Delta Airlines, headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia. The order is valued at USD 386 million, about SEK 3.9 billion. Delta Airlines intends to consolidate all of its flight operations into the new state-of-the-art facility. The existing Terminal A will be replaced with a landside terminal building connected to an airside satellite concourse connected with an underground passage that utilizes people movers. Design plans and pre-construction are under way. The new facility is scheduled for completion in autumn 2004. Full traffic and passenger service levels will be maintained during the entire construction period. At Logan Airport, which is one of the ten largest in the US, Beacon Skanska is currently also constructing Terminal B for American Airlines. This order is valued at USD 220 million. Last year, the company completed the Award winning 600-room Logan Airport Hilton Hotel. For the new terminal project, Boston-based Beacon Skanska and Atlanta-based Beers Skanska are combining their expertise and organizations for this project into a 50/50 consortium. Slattery Skanska will also be involved in the project as a subsupplier. The Skanska companies have extensive experience in airport construction throughout the US. In addition to Delta Airlines and American Airlines, customers include United Airlines and USAirways. In Boston, Slattery Skanska and Koch Skanska are also involved in major contracts for the world’s largest infrastructure project, the "Big Dig" highway reconstruction. The companies are members of Skanska USA, which reported sales for the first nine months of 2000 of SEK 32 billion, an increase of 26 percent compared with the corresponding period in 1999.
