Skanska to lead construction of sport center in St. Petersburg for USD 70 M
Skanska has landed a contract to build a new sports center in St. Petersburg. The order is valued at USD 70 million, or about SEK 560 million. The customer is the Open Joint Venture Company Dvorets Sporta which is owned by the City of St. Petersburg.
PRESS RELEASE, NOVEMBER 25, 1998 89/98 Skanska to lead construction of sport center in St. Petersburg for USD 70 M Skanska has landed a contract to build a new sports center in St. Petersburg. The order is valued at USD 70 million, or about SEK 560 million. The customer is the Open Joint Venture Company Dvorets Sporta which is owned by the City of St. Petersburg. The sports center is scheduled to be completed for the ice-hockey world championship in 2000. The facility is designed for use as an arena for both sports and cultural events. The arena will seat 12,000 spectators for ice-hockey and capacity will increase to about 13,500 as a concert hall. The arena will cover about 38,000 sq. m., of which 6,500 for restaurants, shops and 72 VIP boxes. Skanska's Finnish subsidiary Skanska Oy will be responsible for project management, including planning, design and construction management. Skanska was awarded the project after the customer had terminated cooperation with the contractor originally awarded the project. Prior to the 2000 ice-hockey world championship, Skanska is also building an arena for 9,000 spectators in Jaroslavl, northeast of Moscow. This order is valued at about USD 60 M, or SEK 480 M.
