Skanska wins bridge contract for SEK 178 million

Skanska has been contracted to construct two new double-rail railway bridges over the Göta River in Trollhättan, Sweden. The contract amount for the design-construct project is SEK 178 million. The customer is the Western Track Region of the Swedish National Rail Administration.

Following negotiations, the customer selected Skanska's proposal for the technical solution for the complicated project.

The project involves a vertical-lift bridge in steel with a span of about 55 meters and with four 36-meter-high lift towers in concrete. The project also involves a truss bridge in steel with a span of about 80 meters, the track work and work in the waterway.

Both rail and water traffic will continue to pass through the worksite during the entire construction period. The bridges are scheduled to be completed in December 2000.

The new bridges are part of the Northern Link, the rail connection between Gothenburg and Oslo which gains increased capacity by building a double track along the entire route.

Skanska Underground Construction and Bridges Division is the main contractor, but the project will be carried out in corporation with Skanska Teknik, Emil Lundgrens Elektriska AB and the Dutch company Hollandia BV which is responsible for the detailed engineering, manufacture and erection of the steel bridge sections and the machinery for the vertical-lift bridge.
