Skanska's Finnish subsidiary Skanska Oy will start construction immediately in Yaroslavl, northeast of Moscow, with production time estimated at 20 months.
The arena, which will open in May 2000, will be a main arena for the ice-hockey world championship in the same year. It will also be possible to use the ice-hockey arena, with a capacity of 9,000 spectators, for other types of events.
The 34,000 m2 Yaroslavl Arena 2000 will house restaurants, bars and VIP boxes. The arena will be equipped with modern communications technology.
The customer is Avaco Ltd, which includes the city and the Yaroslavl region as well as a number of private companies. Located 270 kilometers northeast of Moscow, Yaroslavl has 640,000 inhabitants.
Initially, the project is partly financed through the customer's domestic sources. Currently the customer has applied for a guarantee from the Russian Federation to facilitate the main financing through export credits.
