Skanska continues to develop Barkarby site SEK 180 million being invested in Barkarby Handelscentrum

Skanska is continuing to develop the old airfield site at Barkarby, outside Stockholm, into a modern commercial center. Construction began today on the Barkarby Handelscentrum, with a total shop space of 15,000 square meters. The investment amounts to about SEK 180 million.

The new shopping center will feature four buildings, each housing 8-10 shops. The first shops will open in October/November 1999, when 12,000 square meters are scheduled to be completed.

Barkarby Handelscentrum is being built directly adjacent to the Stockholm Quality Outlet, which opened in Barkarby in 1998 and which was developed jointly by Skanska and IKANO.

Skanska Project Development and Real Estate is responsible for project development of the new center. The investment is part of Skanska's strategic focus on the development of projects and properties. Skanska is responsible for the entire chain, from idea to implementation and management of the completed project. In this respect, Skanska combines its skills in project development, properties and construction with the Group's financial strength.

Barkarby Handelscentrum will be owned and operated by Skanska Project Development and Real Estate. Skanska Sweden, Building Construction Division is carrying out the design-construct contract. Ground work is being provided by Skanska Sweden, Road Construction Division.

Skanska also recently constructed a restaurant for McDonald's in Barkarby. Previously, Skanska also built department stores for IKEA and El-Giganten as well as a Max restaurant.

Barkarby Handelscentrum will be easily accessible from a new direct exit from the E18 highway.
