SKANSKA LANDS MAJOR ORDER IN NEW U.S. MARKET

Skanska is now breaking into the American west coast with a subway construction project in San Francisco, for BART the Bay Area Rapid Transit District.

The order, valued at USD 522 M, covers 13-kilometers of tunnel and elevated structure connecting the international airport with the existing BART System. The tunnel is a so-called cut-and-cover type, that is, it will be excavated and then roofed.

The assignment was secured in a consortium with Tudor Saliba, a major California based contractor with whom Skanska has cooperated earlier. Slattery Skanska's portion of the contract is 40 percent. The project will start in January.

Slattery Skanska has been studying the California market for some time. It is judged as stable and attractive in the long term, particularly considering the future seismic retrofitting of various infra-structure projects.

Slattery Skanska specializes in large civil engineering projects of this type. Current projects include major highway projects in Boston and expansion of the subway system in New York City.
