COMMISSION EXTENDS INVESTIGATION OF SKANSKA'S INCREASED SHAREHOLDING IN SCANCEM
In accordance with the procedures of the European Merger Regulation, the European Commission has decided to investigate further Skanska's purchase in October 1997 of additional shares in Scancem.
The Commission seeks to determine whether the transaction creates a concentration which is compatible with the common market in view of the overlaps between the parties' activities in Sweden in relation to the production of certain building materials and in view of the vertical relationships that may be created in the markets for cement in Sweden, Finland and Norway.
The Commission has a maximum of four months to reach a decision on the case.
