Skanska to renovate and expand student center in Seattle for USD 44 M, approximately SEK 300 M
Skanska has secured the assignment to modernize and expand the student center at the University of Washington, in Seattle. The contract amounts to USD 44 M, approximately SEK 300 M, which is included in the order bookings for the fourth quarter of 2010. The customer is the University of Washington.
The assignment includes the expansion of the Husky Union Building (HUB), which is located at the heart of the university campus and serves the university’s approximately 50,000 students.
When complete, the HUB will comprise about 30,000 square meters of floor space, with offices, conference rooms, auditorium, banquet rooms and retail stores. A bowling alley and certain other elements of the original 1949 building will be retained.
The project is being designed to achieve Gold environmental certification in accordance with the LEED international rating system.
Skanska USA Building has conducted parts of the project totaling USD 30 M, which were included in order bookings previously. The project will be completed in 2012.
