Skanska, as part of a consortium, has signed a contract covering construction of a five-star luxury hotel in Helsinki, Finland. The distinguished Kämp Hotel is slated to be renovated and expanded to be reopened under management by Sheraton.

DISTINGUISHED HELSINKI HOTEL TO BE REOPENED

Skanska, as part of a consortium, has signed a contract covering construction of a five-star luxury hotel in Helsinki, Finland. The distinguished Kämp Hotel is slated to be renovated and expanded to be reopened under management by Sheraton.

The consortium includes Skanska’s Finnish subsidiary Skanska Oy, 70 percent, and the Finnish construction company Leo Heinänen, 30 percent. The customer is the Finnish real estate company Merita Real Estate Ltd., which is investing approximately USD 50 M in the project.

The hotel was built in 1887, but has been used as a bank office since 1965. The new hotel will have a total of 180 rooms, including 20 luxury suites in the "old" Kämp Hotel section. In addition to the renovation, the contract involves new construction of 120 hotel rooms, garage and service premises. The ground floor will include shop premises.

Construction is scheduled for completion in the spring of 1999.
