Skanska receives new order in U.S. to reconstruct Times Square Subway Station Complex for SEK 330 million
Skanska has been contracted by the New York City Transit Authority to reconstruct the subway station in world-famous Times Square in New York City. Skanska will have a 50 percent share of the order, which has a total value of USD 83 million, corresponding to about SEK 660 million.
PRESS RELEASE, JANUARY 8, 1999 04/99 Skanska receives new order in U.S. to reconstruct Times Square Subway Station Complex for SEK 330 million Skanska has been contracted by the New York City Transit Authority to reconstruct the subway station in world-famous Times Square in New York City. Skanska will have a 50 percent share of the order, which has a total value of USD 83 million, corresponding to about SEK 660 million. Slattery Skanska will carry out the reconstruction work, which will focus on rehabilitating the structure and restoring the architectural finishes of the 70-year-old massive underground complex. The primary objective is to create a safer, more spacious and well-lit environment for the 500,000 passengers who use the station on a daily basis. Times Square Subway Station is located between Broadway and 7th Avenue in Manhattan. The scope of work includes placement of concrete and installation of steel, street decking, mechanical systems and architectural finishes. Slattery Skanska is the sponsor of the project team in which The Gottlieb Group holds a 50 percent interest. Skanska USA currently has several major infrastructure projects under way, including Airtrain, a light rail system that will link JFK International Airport to other transportation hubs in Queens, New York. This contract, which is the largest ever undertaken by the Skanska Group, is worth a total of SEK 10.4 billion. Other projects are the rehabilitation of 63rd Street subway line in New York City and two contracts to reconstruct Boston's Central Artery. Skanska is also providing services on the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail System. On the West Coast, Skanska and joint-venture partner Tutor Saliba, are performing a USD 526 million design-build assignment for BART in San Francisco.
