Skanska MasTec Alliance and RCN Corporation partner to build advanced fiber optic network

The Skanska/MasTec Alliance has entered into a partnering arrangement with RCN Corporation under which the Alliance will manage the build-out of the Company’s fiber optic network in the United States. In certain instances the Alliance may also provide infrastructure construction services where it benefits RCN. RCN plans to spend USD 3 billion, approximately SEK 25 billion, over the next 3 years constructing its network.

Skanska MasTec Alliance and RCN Corporation partner to build advanced fiber optic network

The Skanska/MasTec Alliance has entered into a partnering arrangement with RCN Corporation under which the Alliance will manage the build-out of the Company’s fiber optic network in the United States. In certain instances the Alliance may also provide infrastructure construction services where it benefits RCN.

Markets served by RCN include the major population centers in the Boston to Washington, DC, corridor and the West Coast of the US. These markets include approximately 40% of the US population and only 6% of the geography. RCN is offering local and long-distance telephone, video programming and data services (including high-speed Internet access) primarily to residential customers in these markets. RCN plans to spend USD 3 billion, approximately SEK 25 billion, over the next 3 years constructing its network. RCN and the Alliance are currently developing plans for approximately USD 1.4 billion, about SEK 12 billion, of RCN’s planned build-out.
