Skanska has been commissioned to install a broadband network in Sundbyberg, a Stockholm suburb. The order is for a broadband network and related services for approximately 10,000 apartments in Sundbyberg that are owned by Förvaltaren, the municipal real estate company.
Skanska’s contract is estimated to be worth SEK 75 million. Final negotiations have been initiated and are expected to be completed at the beginning of year 2000.
Skanska has decided to cooperate with the broadband-services supplier Bredbandsbolaget in this project.
The project comprises urban networks, area networks and property networks connected to Förvaltaren’s tenants. In addition to faster Internet connections, the households will have access to such broadband services as IP telephony and TV via the Internet.
"Skanska and Bredbandsbolaget are leaders in their particular sectors and therefore properly qualified for an undertaking of this scope. The ambition is to create the most modern, flexible and cost-efficient network possible," says Torbjörn Lund, president of Fastighets AB Förvaltaren.
"Working with extending broadband services is in line with our strategy of broadening the range of services we offer to our customers. We view this area as a growing future market. Since infrastructure construction is part of Skanska’s core business, it is natural for us to also conduct this type of infrastructural project," says Ola Jansson, Deputy Regional Manager, Skanska Building Construction, Stockholm.
"As a result of this cooperation, Fastighets AB Förvaltaren and Sundbyberg gain a strong partner for installation of broadband services. Sundbyberg will be a leader in the world in the provision of broadband services for companies and households," says Peter Ekelund, CEO of Bredbandsbolaget.
"Through its real estate company, the municipality has been able in this manner to realize its broadband venture, which is a key condition in order to further strengthen Sundbyberg’s profile as an IT community," says Kenneth Adolfsson, Chief Executive Officer of Sundbyberg City.
The aim is that negotiations between Förvaltaren and Skanska/Bredbandsbolaget will be completed by year-end. Consequently, Fastighets AB Förvaltaren’s Board can make a final decision at its meeting in January. Thereafter, work on the project can commence in spring 2000 for completion during autumn of the same year.
