A 27-square-mile area of contaminated land northeast of Denver is being cleaned up. The area encompasses the Rocky Mountain Arsenal where chemical agents and munitions were manufactured during and after the Second World War. The area is now being restored as a National Wildlife Refuge, based on a program of measures outlined by the Environmental Protection Agency, the state of Colorado and other federal and private interests.
Nielsons, Inc. was first assigned to clean up nearly 500,000 cubic meters of contaminated soil. Thereafter, Nielsons has been awarded several environmental assignments, including preparations for storage of hazardous wastes. The customer is the Arsenal's Remediation Ventures Office, comprised of the U.S. Army, Shell Oil Company and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Sevice. The extensive environmental restoration project will cost a total of USD 2 billion.
Following the acquisition of the Tidewater Group earlier this year, Skanska is one of the ten largest companies in the U.S. construction sector. Skanska USA has annual sales of about SEK 17 billion.
