In both cases, the property deals were transacted with the Municipality of Järfälla. "The transactions are part of our focus on developing external commercial centers while simultaneously selling fully developed properties," says Fredrik Wirdenius, President, Skanska Real Estate Stockholm. Skanska now holds a total of 21,000 m2 of the Barkarby commercial center. Just in time for the Christmas season, Toys "R" Us, Intersport, Jysk Bäddlager, OnOff, Rusta and Cervera have all opened stores in the center. They will be joined in Barkarby during April next year by Babyland, Datacentrum and Bo Concept. Skanska has invested about SEK 160 M and annual revenues for 10-year rental contracts amount to SEK 20 M. "We believe in the continued expansion of Barkarby, which we are currently developing to become one of Sweden’s strongest retail commercial centers. During the year, Ikano and Skanska have also further developed Stockholm Quality Outlet, which now covers a total of 14,000 m2," says Claes Larsson, responsible for the development of business premises within Skanska Project Development and Real Estate. The Barkarby area also contains IKEA, Bauhaus and Elgiganten. During 2000, sales in the area as a whole are expected to total SEK 1.6 billion. Some two million inhabitants in the northern Stockholm area and parts of the greater Mälardalen region can reach the Barkarby commercial center by car within 60 minutes. The following shopping centers are also developed and operated by Skanska Project Development and Real Estate: Väla in Helsingborg, Kållered, south of Gothenburg, and Knalleland in Borås.
