Skanska secures service assignment worth SEK 660 M from Pharmacia Heading

Skanska has signed a three-year facilities-management contract with Pharmacia to implement and develop services at facilities in Stockholm and Uppsala. The contract is worth SEK 660 M. Under the terms of the agreement, Skanska will take over Pharmacia's General Service unit, which provides services to Pharmacia as well as the companies Biovitrum, Biacore, Amersham Biosciences, Fresenius Kabi and Quintiles.

The General Service unit has 219 employees, all of whom will be offered continued employment. The operations comprise restaurants, office-related, graphical and technical services, as well as laboratory and production services. Following the takeover of operations, Skanska will be delivering various service assignments on behalf of some 6,000 employees at Pharmacia and the other companies.

The agreement between Skanska and Pharmacia is expected to come into effect on June 1, after the Swedish Competition Authority has reviewed the transaction.

The agreement with Pharmacia is Skanska's second major facilities-management (FM) contract. Skanska has also previously carried out project development and construction assignments for Pharmacia, both in Sweden and internationally.

"The contract strengthens Skanska's position as an FM supplier, and we are also developing our business relationship with Pharmacia to include facilities management and service," says Mats Jönsson, President of Skanska Services AB. "Skanska's strategy is to operate within the entire value circle, covering project development, construction services and service."

"The agreement is good for Pharmacia, since it assures us of good service, while simultaneously securing long-term employment and development opportunities for our service personnel," comments Lennart Rydén, Vice President, Human Resources at Pharmacia AB.

Today, Skanska is the Nordic region's leading supplier of FM services, with operations that involve managing, executing and developing services related to office facilities, IT, real estate and production. Skanska carries out service assignments on behalf of more than 40,000 employees at client companies. The FM operations have some 1,300 employees in Sweden, Denmark, Finland and UK. Annual sales amount to approximately SEK 2.7 billion.
