Skanska is providing preconstruction services in preparation for the construction of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's newest building, The Stata Complex.
PRESS RELEASE, APRIL 22, 1999 35/99 Skanska to construct new computer center at MIT in the U.S. for about SEK 835 M Skanska is providing preconstruction services in preparation for the construction of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's newest building, The Stata Complex. Construction is valued at USD 100 M (about SEK 835 M). The customer is Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Skanska's U.S. subsidiary Beacon Skanska was retained to manage preconstruction and construction of the Stata Complex on the MIT's main campus in Cambridge. Preconstruction is under way and construction completion is scheduled for 2002. The 30,000 sq. m. (333,000 sq. ft.) facility will house the computer science, linguistics and philosophy departments. In addition to laboratories, the Complex will feature classrooms for over 600 students and more than 1,000 offices for faculty and staff. The building will also include a child-care center and service facility. The state-of-the-art facility is being designed by the California-based architects Frank O. Gehry & Associates. Beacon Skanska's work also includes a series of associated projects linking the Stata Complex to MIT's existing campus area, including tunnel connections, a new parking garage, utility relocations and an addition to the central utility plant. Beacon Skanska has completed several projects for MIT, including the recent Buildings 16 & 56 laboratories, the Dibner Library, Alpha Phi Sorority and the President's House. Beacon Skanska is a full service construction company providing clients with services from program management to project management and general contracting services. The company specializes in commercial, educational and healthcare facilities, laboratories, hotels and multi-unit residential projects. Sordoni Skanska, in which Beacon Skanska is organized, posted sales in 1998 of SEK 8 billion and at year-end 1998 had an order backlog of SEK 17 billion.
