Skanska secures bridge project in Norway - contract valued at SEK 478 M
Skanska will construct a new bridge on the E18 highway at Drammen, outside Oslo. The customer is the Norwegian Road Administration. The contract, valued at SEK 478 M (NOK 435 M), will be included in order bookings for the fourth quarter of 2003.
The project involves a new 1,900-meter-long highway bridge to be constructed alongside an existing bridge. The assignment also includes renovation of the old bridge.
Work begins in December, with scheduled completion in autumn 2005. Thereafter, renovation of the existing bridge will begin, which should be completed in December 2006. Consequently, the E18 bridge across the Drammen River will have four lanes.
The safety and quality approaches in implementation of the project were key factors in the customer's selection of Skanska Norway.
Skanska Norway, formerly Selmer Skanska, has been part of Skanska since 2000 and has a long tradition as a bridge-builder, particularly in Drammen, where its new project is the fourth bridge construction. The first Drammen Bridge was constructed in the 1930s and marked the breakthrough for reinforced concrete in Norway. The company later also built the second and third Drammen Bridges in the 1960s and 1970s.
