SKANSKA AWARDED NEW TUNNELPROJECT IN HONG KONG
Skanska Hong Kong has landed another multi-million dollar contract. It is a new stage of the Hong Kong government's gigantic Strategic Sewer Scheme, on which Skanska has been working for more than three years. The contract value is about HKD 360 million (nearly USD 47 M)The project will be performed jointly with Stabilator, a Skanska company specializing in foundation engineering. It includes three 140 m (460 ft) deep shafts, a 0.8 km (0.5 mi) drill and blast tunnel and a 3.6 km (2.2 mi) tunnel to be excavated by a tunnel boring machine.
The technically complex waste water project requires a high standard of groundwater infiltration control in the tunnels, a field in which Skanska and Stabilator have long experience worldwide – for example in the current rail tunnel project inside southern Sweden's Halland Ridge and the highway tunnel project in Hvalfjørdur, Iceland.
The work will take three years and employ approximately 150 people.
Skanska has operated in the Hong Kong market since the 1960s.
