Skanska constructs motorway in the UK for GBP 129 M, about SEK 1.3 billion

Skanska UK has signed a contract for improvements to M1 Junction 19 with the UK’s Highways Agency. The contract is worth about GBP 129 M, about SEK 1.3 billion, which will be included in the order bookings for Skanska UK in the fourth quarter of 2013.

M1 Junction 19 is a major UK road intersection and the scope of works includes the construction of direct free-flow links, easing traffic movements at the intersections linking the M1, M6 and A14. The scheme also includes refurbishment works to three local roads. The project will lead to improved safety and journey reliability.

Full construction works will begin in January 2014 and target completion is set for at the end of 2016 or beginning of 2017.

Skanska UK reported revenues of about SEK 12 billion in 2012. It has around 5,000 employees. The company is active in building and civil construction, utilities and building services, as well as facilities management. In the UK, Skanska is a leader in public private partnerships, PPPs, also known as Privately Financed Initiatives, PFIs.
