Skanska secures four-year FM agreement valued at SEK 500 M - acquires service company from county council in Sweden
Skanska has secured its first major facilities management assignment in the public sector in Sweden. Skanska Facilities Management will assume responsibility for the delivery of FM services to three hospitals in the county of Östergötland by acquiring the county council's service company Favea. The FM contract is for four years and is valued at a total of approximately SEK 500 M.
"This is a highly attractive assignment. We view this as a breakthrough for us in the public sector. By transferring FM operations to us, in our opinion the county council will gain the possibility to focus further on its core operations, in this case, healthcare. We consider that the Östergötland County Council will be a pioneer in this solution, showing the way for other county councils," says Mats Jönsson, President of Skanska Services, which includes Skanska Facilities Management.
The agreement involves Skanska acquiring the county council's facilities management company Favea, which has 227 permanent employees. The takeover will occur on January 1, 2004. The contract runs for four years with a possibility for an extension of 12 + 12 months.
SEK 170 M will be included in the order bookings for the first quarter of 2004.
The contract comprises a service package at the three hospitals in Norrköping, Linköping and Finspång. The assignment includes responsibility for cleaning, maintenance, kitchens, restaurants, copying and printing centers, and the handling of a central store unit.
The transaction is conditional on approval from the Swedish Competition Authority and that the agreement is formally approved within the county council.
Skanska Facilities Management already provides facilities management services in Linköping for e.g. Saab Aerospace and Ericsson.
Skanska is the largest supplier of facilities management services in the Nordic region. This involves providing and developing FM services for companies and authorities, allowing them to focus on their core operations. Skanska's facilities management operations generate annual sales of approximately SEK 2.5 billion. The company currently has approximately 1,600 employees and operations in Sweden, Denmark, Finland, the UK and Belgium. Customers include Amersham, Ericsson, HP, Philips, Pfizer, Volvo Car Corporation, Saab Aerospace, Saab Automobile, Scania and Volvo Trucks.
