Skanska to construct airport in Ghana for SEK 240 M

Skanska to construct airport in Ghana for SEK 240 M

Skanska has been contracted to expand the Kotoka International Airport in Accra, Ghana in West Africa. The order is valued at approximately SEK 590 M (USD 74 M). Skanska's share is 40%. The customer is the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority.

The project involves renovation and expansion of the terminal buildings, fire station and cold-storage facilities as well as renovation and new construction of the platforms for passenger and freight traffic. Runways and taxiways will be improved and extended by 550 meters. The Skanska-led consortium will also be responsible for installation of radar, navigation and communications equipment.

Skanska International Construction will carry out the project through Skanska Jensen International which will manage the consortium comprising the local construction company P W Ghana, with a 32% interest, and Danish Intertec, with 28%.

The project is being financed with loans from the Hong Kong Chinese bank HSBC, British Paribas and Ghana's Ecobank, with support from the export credit organizations ECGD in Great Britain, EKN in Sweden and EKF in Denmark.

In 1998, Skanska International Construction completed another airport project - Terminal II at the Ferihegy Airport in Budapest, Hungary - valued at USD 72 M (SEK 575 M).
