Press Release

June 26, 2001   Skanska wins roll-out contract for British emergency network worth GBP 20 million, SEK 300 million Skanska has been awarded a framework agreement by BT Airwave to design and construct radio base stations as part of a new nationwide Public Safety Radio Communications Service – Airwave service. The framework agreement is worth an estimated GBP 20 million in a roll-out over 5 years and involves the design and construction of radio base stations throughout the UK. The Public Safety Radio Communications project will include services such as data transmission, vehicle location and automatic person location. The Tetra-system is designed to offer a service for the whole public safety community including police, ambulance, fire services as well as the MoD and military units, the coastguard and the Environment Agency. The new network will significantly improve the co-ordination of resources - for the first time all public safety personnel will be able to network effectively both on the scene and in control centers. The network is aimed at providing an almost total coverage anywhere in the UK. This includes 99 per cent coverage on all motorways and major roads and at least 96 per cent coverage on all minor roads. Skanska's framework agreement was won in competitive tender on the strength of Skanska's established networks operations with British Telecom, BT, and other major cellular telecommunications businesses both in the UK and in mainland Europe. Skanska will be responsible for installing circa 4,000 masts, towers and other communications equipment on existing rooftops and greenfield sites throughout the UK along with four other newly appointed framework contractors and a number of Other Licensed Operators contractors. __________________________________________________ For further information please contact: Cheryl Eaton, PR Manager, Skanska UK, Tel +44 1923 423030 Tor Krusell, Senior Vice President, Corporate Communications, Skanska AB, Tel + 46 8 753 87 47 BT's Airwave service – www.bt.com/airwave
