Skanska delivered the construction of the Bermondsey Dive Under and associated structure strengthening works for Network Rail. This project forms part of the Thameslink development programme.

Vital infrastructure

A major objective of the programme is to provide additional Thameslink services through central London. It aims to reduce delays outside London Bridge station by untangling the tracks. To do this, two pieces of infrastructure are absolutely vital.

One is the new viaduct at Borough Market, which Skanska completed in 2012. This provides two additional tracks at this critical pinch point. The other is a grade-separated junction between New Cross/New Cross Gate and London Bridge station, known as Bermondsey Dive Under.Interconnected structures

Under the contract, Skanska has been responsible for the design and construction of the Dive Under. This is formed of 11 new interconnected structures, along the line of existing operational rail viaducts.

Skanska will also be responsible for associated strengthening works to a number of bridge structures and brick arches along the route.

Wherever possible, existing structures will be reused to minimise disruption and reduce waste.
