The Alston & Bird Renovation project is a 365,419-SF, high-end interior fit-out of 16 floors in an iconic building in midtown Atlanta. The project included 11 attorney floors, three conference floors and two administrative floors. Renovation work involved interior demolition, structural supports for connecting stairs, and interior fit-out and finishes.  Our top priority throughout the project was to avoid disrupting other building tenants. We developed a thorough demolition plan, which required work to be completed in quadrants, and implemented a second shift to handle the large amount of debris being removed—more than 1,000 tons in total. During the project, the team was only allowed use of one large and one small freight elevator for deliveries and debris removal. The team completed most of the demolition work at night, so other tenants would not be disturbed. All demolition work and debris removal was concurrent with the actual build-out.  The original schedule was 22 months and three phases, which the project team was able to condense to 16 months and two phases. Three shifts were established to keep the job on schedule, which meant that work was completed both day and night.  Totaling more than 358,000 work hours, the team completed the assignment with zero Lost Time Accidents as a result of Skanska's proactive focus on creating an Injury-Free Environment (IFE) on the jobsite, through our company-wide IFE initiative.
