NRG Energy Solar Canopy at AmericanAirlines Arena

NRG Energy, in a strategic partnership with the Miami Heat, selected Skanska to construct a 24,000-SF solar pavilion on the East Plaza of American Airlines Arena, the home of the NBA Miami Heat in downtown Miami, Florida. The pavilion is used for pre- and post-event functions, private parties and charity events.  The pavilion transformed this under-utilized space at the Arena into an elegant showcase area with forward-thinking aesthetic and clean-energy design. The pavilion is decorated throughout with circles spanning 16 to 24 feet in diameter that appear to be skylights, but are actually translucent solar panels utilizing Building Integrated Photovoltaic (BIPV) solar technology.
