Gainesville Regional Utilities, Eastside Operations Center

Skanska delivered a highly sustainable, updated operations center with the modern technology, flexible work areas and functional space to enable GRU to more efficiently serve its customers.
    Gainesville Regional Utilities wanted a larger, more centrally located complex that would house 425 employees spanning several departments under one roof. Skanska delivered a highly sustainable, updated operations center with the modern technology, flexible work areas and functional space to enable GRU to more efficiently serve its customers.

Skanska provided construction management at risk services for Gainesville Regional Utilities for the new Eastside Operations Center. The new facility combines several locations into a single centralized hub to facilitate the administration, maintenance, data, IT, communications and control center for transmission and distribution of the power grird. This new 275,000-GSF projects consists of eight major buildings, three minor buildings, a vehicle refueling station, truck shelter, extensive site work including paving, drainage and related work. The new control center is equipped with an Uptown Tier IV data center and hardened to withstand a close proximity blast. Both the safety training facility and the control center are hurricane hardened structures rated to withstand 150mph winds. The building's structural system utilized tilt-up concrete and steel frame construction and included primary and secondary electrical and mechanical systems, external and internal security systems.
