Redbridge street lighting

  • Redbridge street lighting

This is a seven-year partnership between London Borough of Redbridge and Skanska to maintain street lighting and signs.

The contract maintains 27,000 assets, including 21,000 street lamps and 6,000 signs and bollards, across seven wards within the borough.

In 2017, the council awarded Skanska additional work to upgrade the current lighting stock to more efficient light emitting diodes (LEDs).

The benefits

  • Converting to LED reduces energy usage by up to 70 per cent
  • Lights can be dimmed remotely, with a corresponding decrease in energy use
  • Maintenance costs reduced by up to 70 per cent
  • Clearer, more focused lighting decreases light pollution
