Vehicle Storage Support Programme (VSSP)

Skanska is delivering modern, sustainable and effective storage and maintenance solutions for the British Army’s land equipment fleet through the Vehicle Storage Support Programme (VSSP) at Ashchurch, Tewkesbury. The Ministry of Defence awarded Skanska this £259 million contract via the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO).

The VSSP will regenerate the existing site, providing brand new infrastructure and refurbished buildings. This centralised facility will provide a Controlled Humidity Environment for up to 4,100 Army vehicles, minimising the need for maintenance to ensure they are ready to deploy when required.

As part of our commitment to carbon reduction, we are using modern methods of construction throughout the programme to drive down emissions.

The project will employ up to 400 people, across roles including demolition, groundworks, structural steelwork and scaffolding. In addition, the project will also support 10 apprenticeships.

Demolitions began in September 2022, enabling regeneration of the site. All construction activity is expected to complete by 2027.
