Smart technology halved construction time

The ModernaHus concept halves construction time, reduces construction costs and consumes at least 30 percent less energy. The concept is a success and Skanska has now constructed Sweden’s first ModernaHus building in Västervik with tenant-owned apartments.

ModernaHus is a new and slightly different method for constructing residential buildings. The construction technology is safe, green …and fast! Instead of constructing the buildings on site, the framework and facade are cast in Skanska’s plants in Strängnäs and Bollebygd to save time and ensure quality. The completed construction elements are then delivered to the site where they are assembled.

The total execution period is about 7-8 months. A ModernaHus building is constructed in about half the time it takes to construct a traditional building.

ModernaHus buildings are available in six different formats. “Önneby” was chosen in Västervik, with five floors and 22 tenant-owner apartments. The apartments are bright with open floor plans and large balconies.

From 2009, all ModernaHus have been certified in accordance with Skanska’s “Green worksite” environmental marking system. This entails standards such as strict emission requirements for machinery, energy-efficient lighting, and a stricter application of chemical and waste management requirements than those imposed by law.
