The transformation project that improved Uppsala's infrastructure

Through the construction of Uppsala Entré, an entirely new and green city district in Uppsala was formed. Uppsala resecentrum (Uppsala Travel Center) is one of the largest regeneration projects ever undertaken in Uppsala involving the transformation of the entire railway area to improve public transport. On the east side of the railway, Skanska constructed Uppsala Entré.

The area was shaped into a vibrant meeting place featuring residential housing, offices, retail space, restaurants and a first-class hotel.

A vibrant city district

When Uppsala Entré was constructed, seven residential buildings with about 90 apartments were built, as well as retail space on the entrance floor. It also features an office and commercial premises covering 12,500 square meters and a first-class hotel with 175 rooms and conference facilities. The area is a vibrant city district where many people live, work and spend their leisure time. The residential buildings have a modern design at the same time as they blend effortlessly into the surrounding environment of older buildings. The buildings have been designed by the internationally acclaimed architecture firm Svendborg Architects, who was also behind the design of Uppsala Konsert & Kongress.

The building comprising a hotel, office space and commercial premises was designed as an arch in two sections each with six stories. The hotel is housed in one of the arches while the other contains office and retail space and restaurants. A natural meeting place was created in front of the building in the form of a square for all who move about in the area.

Environment in focus

Consideration for the environment is high on the agenda for Skanska in the construction and operation of the buildings. The hotel meets the criteria of the Nordic Ecolabel and the office building is Uppsala’s first GreenBuilding. The latter of these labeling systems means, for example, that the building’s energy consumption is at least 25 percent below legislative requirements. The environment was also in focus when constructing the residential units.

Close to everything

Every possible neighborhood service is available at Uppsala Entré such as pharmacies, supermarkets, gyms, restaurants and other retail outlets. Uppsala resecentrum is located just a stone’s throw away from the buildings and Stora torget (the Main Square) is only a few minutes away.

Schedule

We commenced construction of Uppsala Entré in 2009/2010. The hotel and offices were ready in 2012, and the residential units were completed in 2016.
