Container Berth No.4

  • Container Berth No.4

Skanska was awarded a $10.5 million contract to construct Container Berth No. 4 and related facilities at the Norfolk International Terminals.

Berth No. 4 was part of a $33 million expansion of the terminal to handle increasing container shipments through the Port of Norfolk.

This project was divided into three phases. First, Skanska built 330 feet of berth to accommodate two new cranes that are used to load and unload ships. Second, 850 feet of berth was built to accommodate a third crane. Finally, Skanska built the rest of the berth to complete a berth 120 feet wide and 1,540 feet long.

Skanska used more than 13,000 cubic yards of concrete used on the project and installed almost 1,200 20-inch square concrete piles.
