Constructed by Skanska, 16-storey high-rise apartment building Matrix is a landmark in the Hervanta district of Tampere.

Housing company As. Oy Tampereen Matrix I is one of the three high-risers planned for this city block. The appearance of the buildings is based on a design that won a competition on the plot of land. The winning design was made by Timo Veijonsuo of architect's office Arkkitehdit LSV Oy.

Architecture

Matrix is the start of new development in Hervanta. The modern appearance of the high-riser with its dark concrete frame and glazed balconies suits the Hervanta cityscape well: the district is also home to the Tampere University of Technology and several high tech companies. A fence made from red brick connects the new building to the pre-existing red brick architecture by Raili and Reima Pietilä.

Matrix consists of 93 apartments ranging from studios to two-bedroom apartments. There is a viewpoint available to all residents of the building on the top floor.

Skanska also built second 16-storey high-rise apartment building Solaris next to Matrix I.
