Kuopio University Hospital

  • Puijo hospital

Skanska has been participating in contracts for the Kuopio University Hospital for over a decade.

The Kuopio University Hopsital extension was completed in February 2015. Skanska is responsible for all indoor construction – from floor to ceiling – as well as the related infrastructure and technology. After the extension, the new building will accommodate an intensive care unit, maternity ward and dialysis facilities.

These will be joined by a centralized operating unit with 26 operating theaters. The fact that the hospital is in continuous operation throughout the extension project sets additional challenges for the contract work. Particular attention is paid to ensuring that site operations do not disturb patients or hospital staff in the form of noise or dust, for example.

For years, Skanska has been systematically developing and deploying information modeling technology, which was also utilized in the Puijo Hospital project. Tablet devices can be conveniently used for such purposes as reviewing plans, auditing, writing and saving notes, transferring data, and scheduling.
