Promoting good stakeholder relations is a top priority for Skanska. Stakeholders have a considerable impact on our business, presenting us with both opportunities and risks. Engaging with all legitimate stakeholders, even those who criticize us, provide Skanska with new perspectives that can help us realize our Sustainability ambitions.

Important stakeholders

The Skanska Group has many stakeholders, of which the most important includes:

  • Shareholders/investors/banks
  • Customers
  • Suppliers/subcontractors
  • Non-governmental organisations (NGOs)
  • Employees 
  • Management

Different stakeholders exist depending on the level in Skanska where such relationships are important. Some of these are permanent while others are temporary. In general, these stakeholders reflect the nature of our decentralized business model.

Stakeholder Engagement

Most Skanska stakeholders are local with a specific and direct interest in one or more of our projects. Since we typically execute around 10,000 contracts annually, we have many thousands of stakeholder interactions each year at local level. Such interactions are typically led by the local Business Unit since our corporate governance model requires line management to take responsibility for all aspects of its business.

Our Code of Conduct states that we will engage in constructive dialogue with all legitimate stakeholders. This can take many forms including face-to-face interaction such as “town hall” meetings and one-to-one discussion, communication through different print formats and most recently via interactive Social Media. For example, many projects now publish regular Blogs to inform local communities of planned activities and to exchange comments relating to these.
