Head of U.S. operations to be new President of Skanska

The Board of Directors of Skanska AB has decided to appoint Claes Björk, 51, of New York as the new President and Group Chief Executive. Mr. Björk, currently a Senior Vice President of Skanska AB and head of the Skanska USA business area, will assume his new position on August 1. He will succeed Melker Schörling, who is being proposed at the Annual Shareholders’ Meeting in May as the new Chairman of the Board, succeeding Percy Barnevik.

HEAD OF U.S. OPERATIONS TO BE NEW PRESIDENT OF SKANSKA

The Board of Directors of Skanska AB has decided to appoint Claes Björk, 51, of New York as the new President and Group Chief Executive. Mr. Björk, currently a Senior Vice President of Skanska AB and head of the Skanska USA business area, will assume his new position on August 1. He will succeed Melker Schörling, who is being proposed at the Annual Shareholders’ Meeting in May as the new Chairman of the Board, succeeding Percy Barnevik.

Claes Björk has been an employee of Skanska since 1967, first in Sweden and since 1971 in the United States. He became responsible for U.S. construction operations in 1983 and was appointed President of Skanska (USA) Inc. in 1987. Since 1995, Mr. Björk has been a member of the Group Management of Skanska AB.

During the 26 years that Mr. Björk has worked in U.S. operations, sales have risen from about SEK 300 M to nearly SEK 13 billion. Skanska USA is now ranked among the leading construction com-panies both in the New York area and in the southeastern United States.

During 1992-95, Mr. Björk also served as Chairman of the Swedish-American Chamber of Com-merce in New York. Since 1990 he has been on the Board of the listed Canadian construction com-pany Banister Foundation.
